About the founder
Susan Joy Sager is an artist and administrator who founded ArtBiz
in 1993 to provide professional development for artists and craftspeople
by offering career counseling sessions and business seminars.
In addition to publishing articles in publications such as The
Crafts Report, Woodshop News, and the Maine Crafts Association
Newsletter, Susan has written Selling Your Crafts, published
by Allworth Press in New York in 1998, as well as Creative Careers
in Crafts, profiling over 40 craftspeople, published in 2004.
Susan is a graduate of the Lake Placid School of Art, Lake Placid,
NY, with a Diploma in Painting and Photography and Hampshire College,
Amherst, MA, with a BA degree in Photography and History.
Susan has taught workshops at schools and organizations such as: Maine
College of Art, Montserrat College of Art and Design, Worcester Craft
Center, Savannah College of Art and Design, Massachusetts College
of Art, Farnsworth Museum, and Peters Valley Craft Center.
Her work as an arts administrator includes such schools as the: Program
in Artisanry, Boston University, Boston, MA; Swain School of Design,
New Bedford, MA; Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, Cambridge,
MA; Portland School of Art, Portland, ME; Haystack Mt. School of Crafts,
Deer Isle, ME; and Bangor Historical Society, Bangor, Maine.
She is currrently the House Manager for the Warner House museum in
Portsmouth. NH.
Susan lives in South Berwick,
Maine with her husband and son.
